Out of 22 entries Departure scored in the top 7 in every category (Directing, Cinematography, Editing, and Inspiration Package). It was also an official selection at the 2008 Sidewalk Moving Picture Festival.
In 2006, the Sidewalk Moving Picture Festival celebrated 8 years. To commemorate the milestone, the festival sponsored a competition for Alabama filmmakers. The rules were simple: produce a 2 minute short with the number 8 incorporated somewhere into the film. Imagination, which features two children enjoying an afternoon of coloring, was selected as a finalist in the competition.
